Clallam’s Night to Shine reset for March 23

An epic storm only delayed a signature event for the Olympic Peninsula’s special needs community.
Originally scheduled for Feb. 8, the 2019 Clallam Night to Shine prom has been rescheduled for 3-6 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Roosevelt Elementary School, 106 Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
Registration for the prom that serves individuals with special needs of ages 14 and older has reopened for both guests and volunteers; those already signed up do not need to re-register.
All required registration forms can be obtained at www.clallamnighttoshine.org, www.clallammosaic.org or by email to clallamnts@gmail.com.
Those who previously registered but are no longer able to attend or help, are asked to send an email to clallmnts@gmail.com.
There are many opportunities before, during and after the prom for individuals to be involved, event organizers say. For a list of volunteer activities, visit www.clallamnightoshine.org/volunteers.
Guests will be partnered with a “buddy,” receive the royal treatment, enjoy hair and makeup stations and shoe-shining areas, and receive a corsage or boutonniere. Guests are announced as they enter the prom, walk down the red carpet and are crowned queen or king of the prom.
Once crowned, guests enjoy a buffet, dancing, informal and formal photo portraits and take home prom favors.
A respite room is provided for family members and caregivers who wish to remain on site during the prom. The respite room allows family and caregivers to stay close while receiving a little pampering themselves. A sit down meal will be served.
Clallam Night to Shine is hosted by Hillcrest Baptist Church and The Crossing Church, with their community partners Clallam Mosaic, Camp Beausite, and Wilderness Escapes and sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.
A joint worship service hosted by Hillcrest Baptist and The Crossing Church has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, March 24, also at the Roosevelt Elementary School.
