Weavers, spinners meet

The next Weavers and Spinners Guild Meeting is set for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave.

Susan Kroll will give a presentation on Kumihimo braiding following the group’s monthly meeting. She will introduce attendees to this Japanese art of braiding with a bit of history, samples of different braids and ways to use the braids. There will also be an opportunity to purchase some materials and begin a small hands-on project to take home.

Spinners, weavers, felters and other fiber enthusiasts are invited to attend this free meeting.

Bazaar set in Gardiner

The Gardiner Holiday Bazaar is set for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road.

The event features handmade gifts, photos with Santa, achili lunch and more.

Guske in spotlight

Carolyn Guske is the featured artist for November at the Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St., Port Angeles.

Guske will be at the gallery from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, and during the Second Saturday Art Walk from 5-7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9.

An artist with a lifelong passion for animals, Guske had a 30-year career as an artist in animation. Her animation career started in ink and paint, to color key, back to art school and onto background painting and visual development at Disney, Dreamworks, Warner Bros. and Sony.

Starting in March of 2009 between animation gigs, she began to paint farm animals. For the past several years she has taught drawing and watercolor painting on the Olympic Peninsula.

City art, culture talk

Join the Sequim City Arts Advisory Commission for a conversation about arts and culture in Sequim from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the council chambers at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

Musicians, performance artists, chorus groups, luthiers, drum makers, musical craftspeople, storytellers, songwriters, poets and others are invited to attend a conversation about how the commission can help the local arts community.

“Part of our mission is to work towards making Sequim a place where all of the arts are celebrated and appreciated, and in order to do that, we need your input,” commissioner members said in a press release.
