Local hospice volunteers got another big boost from their friends with the Sequim Bay Yacht Club.

The club’s annual Reach and Row for Hospice event in September 2019 saw participants and other donations raise $23,047, pushing the event’s overall total to $383,074 over the past 27 years.

All funds are earmarked for the respite fund for patients and family members of Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Port Angeles that provides compassionate care to the terminally ill, their caregivers and families. The organization does not bill any patient, insurance plan or government agency with all services supported by local donations and grants, and all donations are tax-deductible.

In 2019, the Reach and Row for Hospice event saw 10 sailboats compete along with 18 rowing participants.

The 2020 Reach and Row for Hospice event is scheduled for Sept. 19-20 on Sequim Bay, at John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Road.
