Olympic Peninsula Authors offers free writing contest

Published 1:30 am Wednesday, April 8, 2020

With a host of springtime events canceled, members of the Olympic Peninsula Authors group are looking to make the most of their time at home by sponsoring a writer’s contest.

The contest, boasting the theme “Keep Your Distance,” has no entry fee. Any Clallam of Jefferson County resident can enter one piece —a poem, short story, memoir, play/teleplay scene or other — with a 2,000-word maximum. Entries must be submitted by Friday, May 29, to olympicpeninsulaauthors@gmail.com on a word document. Include name, category of entry at the top of the first page, with page numbers at the top of other pages.

Judges will be Heidi Hansen and Linda B. Myers.

Contest organizers will award fun prizes (such as wine or toilet paper) for top entries.

Winners will likely be announced at the end of June.

Because of the “Stay at Home” state proclamations, the Olympic Peninsula Authors have canceled a publishing seminar, a social event for writers, Fourth Friday Readings in Sequim, open mic readings in Port Angeles, a Spring Fling and arts and craft fair events, and more.
