A local lettering arts group and an artist best known for her aviation art are teaming up for the Blue Whole Gallery’s new exhibit in September.

Peninsula Scribes, a guild that promotes calligraphy, lettering arts, book arts and paper craft, join gallery member Priscilla Patterson for a show featured at the gallery at 129 W. Washington St.

The exhibit opens from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4 and the gallery is open those same hours, Wednesdays-Sundays.

Facial coverings and social distancing are required in the gallery, which is limited to six persons at a time.

Started in 1980, Peninsula Scribes sees members participate in annual events that include a group project, workshops, Clallam County Fair exhibit, a fun day with a guild from Olympia at Hamma Hamma, and a regional calligraphy conference.

Exhibiting members in September include Susan Blenk, Sandee Freeman, Pamela Hunter, Terri Kruger, Linda O’Neil, Genaveve Starr and Rebecca Wild.

An award-winning artist, Patterson picked the them of “While we stayed home … ” for the September exhibit. Each piece features an event the artist observed during the months of this year when we stayed home such as “calves were born in the pasture,” “we read books,” “the lavender bloomed” and more.

Patterson serves as Education Chair for the American Society of Aviation Artists, an organization she’s been a member of since 1994. She’s also a member of the Canadian Aviation Artists Association and the Coast Guard and Air Force Art Programs, and she has a certification in Composite Drawing for Law Enforcement.
