Gymnastics: Peninsula team takes second at Sehome invite

Peninsula gymnasts posted a strong showing at the Sehome Invitational on Jan. 8, earning second place in the five-team meet with a team featuring five Port Angeles athletes, two from Sequim and another from Crescent.

The team earned 152.8 points to take second place behind Ballard (156.25) and ahead of host Sehome (134.9).

Sequim senior Alex Schmadeke was the top local individual, placing fifth with 34.45 all-around points. She was third in the floor exercise (9.3), fourth on the beam (9.1), fifth on vault (8.45) and fifth on bars (7.6).

SHS junior Susannah Sharp placed ninth in all-around scoring with 31.5 points. She was fifth on floor exercise (9.0), sixth on vault (8.4) and eighth on bars (7.1).

Port Angeles freshman Jessamyn Schindler was seventh in all-around scoring (32.55 points).

The combined peninsula team is back in action with a home meet at the Klahhane Gymnastics Center in Port Angeles on Jan. 12 against Kingston.
