Dr. Marsha Melnick presents “Exercise Your Brain-Dance to the Music,” a WOW! Working on Wellness Radio Forum set for 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, on KSQM 91.5 FM.
Exercise is important for all people as they age, experts say, but a recent study found that more exercise is associated with lower mortality for those with Parkinson’s disease. Dance is one form of exercise that has proven effective for those with Parkinson’s, with the complex dance steps helping to maintaining movement.
Melnick a physical therapist working as an independent contractor in Sequim, will talk about her dance program here on the Olympic Peninsula, and she will explain why dance works and how to get started even for those who have the proverbial two left feet.
Melnick treats those with Parkinson’s disease as well as balance disorders, strokes and multiple sclerosis. She is a Professor Emerita and Clinical Professor at the University of California and San Francisco State University Graduate Program in Physical Therapy. Throughout her career she has specialized in treatment of neuromuscular dysfunction and particularly Parkinson’s disease.
WOW! Working on Wellness is a health education program of Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic — Sequim’s free clinic, which provides basic urgent care and chronic health care services to uninsured community members.
