Enjoy reading or listening to Kirstin Valdez Quade’s 2021 First Novel Prize-winning book, “The Five Wounds” as an eBook or eAudiobook with no waitlists or holds via Together We Read, one of OverDrive’s digital book clubs.

Special dance event set at Elks Lodge

The Mark Holman Combo will play a variety of swing, standards, oldies, waltzes and more for dancing enjoyment at a post-football/pre-Valentine dance set for 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.

Admission $12 for guests, $10 for Elks club members.

The group features Holman on sax, clarinet and flute, Olivia Hickerson on keyboards; Glenn Hawkins on bass and brass, and special guest for the evening, vocalist Tess Teel.

There is no food or beverage service in the Elks Ballroom at this time. Hand sanitizer and hearing protection will be offered at the event. Masks are to be worn by attendees.

Digital book club to explore ‘The Five Wounds’

North Olympic Library System patrons can join readers around the world during Together We Read, one of OverDrive’s digital book clubs. From Feb. 7-21, book lovers can enjoy reading or listening to Kirstin Valdez Quade’s 2021 First Novel Prize-winning book, “The Five Wounds” as an eBook or eAudiobook with no waitlists or holds.

“The Five Wounds” spans a baby’s first year as five generations of the Padilla family converge.

Together We Read is an international reading program facilitated by OverDrive that simultaneously connects millions of readers around the world with an eBook through public libraries.

Writing group to meet

Local writers are invited to join the Thursday, Feb. 17 meeting of Olympic Peninsula Christian Writers for a presentation by Shane Simonsen on “Writing for the Web.”

Simonsen is the communications director for Dungeness Community Church, and will share practices that can make your writing more effective for use on websites, blogs and newsletters.

The meeting, held via Zoom, begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends by 8:15 p.m. Join the meeting at tinyurl.com/2thsfuvn; no password is needed.
