Youth wins marathon medal design contest
Sarah Butterworth, and 11-year-old student at Dry Creek Elementary School in Port Angeles, has won the 2022 North Olympic Discovery Marathon Kids Medal Design Contest, the organization announced last week.
“I have been doing the Kids Marathon for as long as I can remember,” Butterworth said. “I have always dreamed of having my design on the medal. This is an amazing opportunity.”
The Kids Marathon medal is presented to all kids who cross the finish line at the annual fun run event in June.
The YMCA Youth & Government/Olympic Peninsula Delegation selected the grand prize winner and the runner-ups for this, the sixth-annual contest.
Joining Butterworth in accolades are runner-ups Regan Doane, Maddie Walton, Violet Devoney and Wyatt Davis, each of whom are also students at Dry Creek Elementary. All contest winners receive an entry into the Kids Marathon event, a special certificate and a thank-you goody bag.
Butterworth will work with race director Victoria Jones and the medal design team at Ashworth Awards to fine-tune, approve and finalize the Kids Marathon event medal.
The 19th-annual Kids Marathon is set for 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the City Pier in Port Angeles.
