Buttercup Lane brings R&B, blues, more to Lodge
Buttercup Lane plays dance music — including such genres as classic rock and roll, blues, R&B, country, swing and more — for couples and free dancers from 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.
Guests are welcome. Cost is $10 for members, $12 for guests.
Buttercup Lane members include Mike Johnson (electric uke and lead vocals), Diane Johnson (lead vocals and harmony), Rodger Bigelow (lead guitar and vocals), Dave Keyte (electronic wind instrument), and Joe D’entrone (bass guitar).
The band has played at several events and venues on the Olympic Peninsula such as the Clallam County Fair, Sequim Lavender Weekend, Sequim Irrigation Festival, the Sequim Prairie Grange.
Sequim City Band announces summer schedule
The Sequim City Band hosts a series of free, live concerts at the James Center for the Performing Arts, an outdoor stage in north Carrie Blake Community Park, 350 N. Blake Ave., this summer.
Dates and times include: 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15; 3 p.m. Sunday, June 12; 3 p.m. Monday, July 4 (the band’s traditional 4th of July concert); 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, for the KSQM 91.5 FM “Pet Lover’s Day” at the park event.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the live music.
The band hosts weekly rehearsals from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave., and welcomes new members — in particular percussionists or wind instrumentalists. Libraries to celebrate Día del Niño
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) celebrates el Día del Niño/Children’s Day this month with crafts, games and books!
Beginning Monday, April 25, bring your preschool through elementary school-aged children to any NOLS branch to pick up a free Take-and-Make kit that includes:
• a mini paper bag piñata craft with Mexican sweets
• a NOLS Lotería game to take home and play with the family
• a bilingual book
At 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, join library staff on Zoom to play the Lotería game online.
Since 1925, Día del Niño, or the Day of the Child, has grown as an annual celebration throughout Mexico. This day celebrates children, recognizes their importance in society, and promotes their well-being.
