Kids Fishing Day set for Saturday

Local anglers look to make another splash with local youth at the 2022 Kids Fishing Day, set for 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the reclamation pond north of Carrie Blake Community Park, 350 N. Blake Ave.

Members of the host organization Puget Sound Anglers-North Olympic Peninsula Chapter will provide fishing rods for checkout, bait and expert volunteers to assist the youths in cleaning and icing the fish.

The event is free; donations are appreciated.

Club members are also giving away fishing rod setups to the first 50 youths reporting to the rod check out canopy (parents/guardians should be present to sign for rods). Participants 14 and younger can keep the first two fish caught.

After the event, youngsters can fish daily with the same two first fish caught limit.

The anglers club is hosting a public general meeting on Wednesday, April 20, at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road. People start gathering at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The featured speaker is Dr. Katelyn Bosley, a crustacean biologist with Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife. Her talk will focus on Puget Sound shrimp ecology.

The gathering includes a short business meeting and raffle drawings following Bosley’s talk (raffles are for members only). Attendees can get an annual membership for $25, which includes “The Reel News” monthly publication.
