Woodturners group to meet
The Strait Turners , a local wood turning club will be meeting in person and on Zoom this Saturday (Sept. 17) at at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road.
The gathering starts with an initial business meeting followed by the demonstration of how to turn Christmas ornaments. Any interested individual may attend.

PC offers Vocal Masters Series
Peninsula College has offered online vocal instruction with renowned vocal clinicians and performers since the start of the pandemic. The last day to register for this year’s fall quarter is Sept. 27.

Instructors include: Angela Kelman, a respected vocal coach and author of “The 5 Point Singing System”; Joani Taylor, Canada’s “First Lady of the Jazz Ballad” who has thousands of film scores, commercials and recordings on her resume; Liz Johnson, a vocologist and voice teacher based in Nashville, Tenn., who practices voice habilitation with people from all over the world, and Gardner-Morales, an accomplished musician and professor of music with more than 35 years of experience whose vocal jazz classes have attracted world-renowned musicians to her workshops.

Shakti yoga with Rocky
Try out dance-inspired yoga to cultivate Shakti (divine feminine/earth energy) in the body on Fridays from 4:15-5:15 p.m. on Sept. 16 at Blue Mountain Yoga+, 803 Carlsborg Road.
This class focuses on waving the body and spine to increase mobility and open the flow of energy, organizers say. “In this class you will dance between structure and flow and find your unique expression of each pose.”

PAFAC sets ‘Turning Point’ exhibition
The Port Angeles Fine Art Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., hosts an opening reception for “Turning Point” from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16.
This exhibition featuring Whidbey Island artist Hannah Klaus Hunter will be on display throughout the fall through Nov. 6 (11 a.m.- 5 p.m., Thursday-Sunday).
“Turning Point” is an exhibition of printmaking and collage that explores seasonal change and environmental shifts through light, temperature and local plant life- all elements deeply embedded in the artist’s process. The collection covers five years of observation and art making.
A Gelli Printmaking Workshop will take place 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at PAFAC’s Esther Webster Gallery. Gelli printing is an innovative way to create vibrant, one of a kind prints called monoprints using gel plates, acrylic paints and paper. There are limited spots available for the workshop.
Tickets are $75 for PAFAC members and $85 for general tickets and can be purchased at pafac.kindful.com/e/printmakingworkshop.
The gallery will remain open to the public during the workshop.

OTA sets auditions for two productions
Olympic Theatre Arts hosts auditions for two upcoming shows: The New Works Showcase and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”
OTA’s annual New Works festival features original short plays written by local authors, while “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is based on the book about putting on a pageant with “probably the most inventively awful kids in history,” program organizers said.
Both shows audition Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 26-27. Participants of ages 8-18 audition at 3:30 p.m. and ages 18 and older audition at 6 p.m.
New Works Showcase features eight original short plays written by local authors. The scripts range from deep drama to high comedy.
The directors are looking for a large variety of cast members. Some may be asked to do multiple roles in multiple plays. All types and experiences are encourage to audition. New Works will run Nov. 17-21.
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is a comedy Christmas play based on the popular book by Barbara Robinson. A couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman children.
