The weekly blotter includes incidents that occurred in the City of Sequim and in unincorporated Clallam County in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley area.

Clallam County Fire District 3 reported to 206 incidents from Sept. 21-27.

Battalion Chief Chris Turner said that they respond to all types of emergencies, including an increasing number of “non-emergencies.”

“Some modern phones and medical alert pendants are programmed to identify when you are in a collision or if you have fallen,” he said. “This then notifies 911 and our crews respond. These conveniences have resulted in an increased number of false alarms for our crews over the past year.”

Turner recommends for residents to reduce this risk, take the steps to make sure you have an up-to-date contact number with your service providers, and to check the status of your mobile device even if you drop it on the floor.

He said to also answer incoming calls when the service checks to see if it is a false alarm; phone carriers and fall detection companies try your number first before 911.

The countywide burn ban remains in effect until at least October 1, and Turner said burn complaints for non-compliance pull resources from other true emergencies. Visit ccfd3.org for more information about burning and regulations.
