Ukranian bakery to open

What started last year as a fundraising effort to help Ukranian troops has turned into a full-time business for Sequim resident Kate Orz.

Last year, Orz, with help from neighbors and supporters, spearheaded a baking and cooking fundraiser to purchase warm winter clothes and more for her friends in a reconnaissance brigade in the Ukraine army. She received so much support from the community for her baked goods that she is now opening her own storefront.

On Thursday, Aug. 21, Orz will open Sunflower Tastes, a bakery, deli and market specializing in Ukranian cuisine and artisan sourdough bread. The business is located on the Port Angeles wharf, at 115 E. Railroad Ave., Suite 211.
