Michael Trebert Chapter DAR donates handmade blankets, snacks

Service members at Joint Base Lewis-McChord were beneficiaries

The Michael Trebert Chapter (MTC), Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), recently donated 38 handmade blankets and 108 snack protein packages to active-duty service members at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) to show appreciation for their service and dedication.

MTC-DAR members Flora Todt, Cindy Stallknecht, Lynne Petitjean, Sue Owens, Candy Gammel, Judy Tordini, and Ginny Wagner presented the donations to JBLM Sergeant First Class David Rodriguez, Sergeant Aurora Lopez, and other military officers.

“It is our privilege to express our gratitude to the brave men and women serving our country at JBLM,” Ginny Wagner, membership chair of the Michael Trebert Chapter, said in a prepared statement. “We hope the blankets provide comfort and a small piece of home to the active-duty military while on their missions. The snack-protien packages are another way to say thank you and to recognize their daily dedication in keeping our country safe and strong.”

The blankets were created by MTC members through the Blankets for Boots project, a chapter initiative that provides handmade camouflage polar fleece blankets to active duty service members.

Following the presentation, JBLM officers gave MTC members a tour of the Main Post Chapel and the historic entrance gate, built in November 1917.

As one of the largest military installations in the nation — and the largest in the western United States — JBLM is home to more than 48,000 service members.

The Michael Trebert Chapter DAR is part of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
