Pastor Desi Larson of Trinity United Methodist Church blesses Karen Kremkau’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Sadie-Mae during the annual Blessing of the Animals service held outside the church at 100 N. Blake Ave. on Sunday, Oct. 12. The annual ceremony is open to the public, and those who have lost a beloved pet are invited to bring the pet’s photo or speak their name aloud so that a prayer of remembrance can be said. The tradition celebrates the life of St. Francis of Assisi, who believed that all of God’s creations are interconnected and equally blessed.
