Blue Whole Gallery combines nature, machinery for November show

Works of White, Middlestead to be featured

“Nature vs. Machine,” featuring the work of painter Molly Chris White and ceramicist Mike Middlestead will be the show featured at Blue Whole Gallery during the month of November.

The theme explores the contrasting characteristics and interactions between the natural world and human-made technology. Nature represents organic complexity, adaptability and intricate systems. Machines embody precision, efficiency and the potential for both progress and disruption. Both artists bring to light their interpretations of this theme through the art they will have on display.

White is a former teacher and longtime artist whose focus on nature includes whimsical interpretations of animals.

“I love capturing the expressions of animals,” she said. “The theme for this show has been a fun challenge for me. Combining a horse with a steampunk background takes whimsy to a whole new level!”

Middlestead is a retired Coast Guard aircraft mechanic. For this show, he is combining his love of ceramics with the mechanical aspects of his former life.

“I’m very comfortable with machinery and all the parts that make up a piece of equipment,” he said. “For this show my pieces combine nature and metal through clay. I love learning new processes when I am creating my art. I’ve learned a lot making these pieces!”

“Nature vs. Machine” will be on display from Nov. 3-Nov. 30. Both artists will be on hand to meet the public during First Friday Art Walk on Nov. 7 from 5-8 p.m.

Located at 129 W. Washington St., Blue Whole Gallery is open daily. Find out more at bluewholegallery.com.
