Sequim’s 15th Cranksgiving is set for Saturday, Nov. 22, and organizers welcome all ages to ride along to pick up food for the Sequim Food Bank.
“The math is simple; the more riders who participate, the more food we will be able to gather for our Food Bank,” said co-organizer Tom Coonelly.
The event’s tent will be open from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Food Bank, 144 W. Alder St.
Riders are encouraged to bring their wheels, a helmet, something to carry food, and about $25 to purchase food. Cash donations are also accepted at the tent.
Through the years, Sequim’s event has brought in 10-plus tons of food and $27,000-plus for the Sequim Food Bank.
Organizers said they hope more people will participate due to the effect of rising prices across the board and that more families are seeking help from the Food Bank.
Individuals and teams will gather and purchase food from along Washington Street. There will be swag and a raffle available for all participants, featuring donations from local merchants and national bicycle brands. Traditional “Trophy Cans” will be awarded, including “Most Food Gathered” and “Oldest Rider.” Riders can join a celebratory gathering at Rainshadow Coffee after the event.
Cranksgiving started 26 years ago in New York City and more than 100 cities participate each year.
