PTA’s Turkey Trot surpasses fundraising goal

Sequim Elementary PTA’s volunteers announced that the group’s annual Turkey Trot exceeded its goal.

As of Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, the event had raised $29,825 of a $28,000 goal through the Get Movin fundraising app.

Organizers said that donations support purchasing books for students to read over summer break, help with PTA-led teacher appreciation events, support reading, science and other programs, and fund teacher-led projects that create hands-on learning experiences for students.

The Turkey Trot is the PTA’s largest fundraiser with Greywolf Elementary and Helen Haller Elementary students recording laps either inside Greywolf’s gymnasium or at the district’s track on the half day before Thanksgiving as part of an effort to promote student fitness and school spirit.

Volunteers, staff, and older students help tally laps at the schools.

According to the PTA’s Get Movin site, 760 donations have been pledged to the students from 34 states so far.

Donations will be accepted through Friday, Dec. 5.
