The WSU Clallam County Extension has a new staff member and leader.
Jenny Schmidt began in April as the 4-H coordinator for the Extension office. Schmidt’s hire fills the position of retired 4-H coordinator Gena Royal.
In this position, Schmidt will be coordinating volunteers, member enrollment and special events for the extensive 4-H programs and offerings in Clallam County.
Schmidt brings with her a variety of experience in coordination and education, including a degree in education from Minnesota State University-Mankato. She has experience in schools, colleges and many volunteer organizations. She also was an avid 4-H member while growing up.
“I am very excited to bring my skills to the challenge of coordinating the 4-H program in Clallam County,” Schmidt said. “4-H has an awesome mission to promote and this area has so many great resources to tap into. I look forward to seeing how our county can build on existing programs and take our 4-H offerings in new directions.”
Clallam County 4-H clubs teach life skills such as leadership, citizenship, animal husbandry, gardening, crafts and sciences. 4-H clubs are available to youths in grades kindergarten-12 in all areas of the county. Clubs are organized and facilitated by trained, screened volunteer leaders.
If you are interested in joining a club or becoming a 4-H leader, stop by the WSU Extension office in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Suite 15, or call 417-2398.
