The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula are teaming up with Major League Baseball’s “Wanna Play?” program to allow local youths to become more health-conscious and active while learning the fundamental skills of baseball and softball.
Boys and girls ages 6-12 are encouraged to join in for a complimentary lunch (noon) and a baseball skills and agility program (1-1:45 p.m.) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from June 11-Aug. 29. All “Wanna Play?” participants are encouraged to stay for a Healthy Habits program at 2 p.m. one day each week.
Participation isn’t required each day/week but skills will progress and improvement is anticipated over the 11 weeks.
The programs meet at the Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., Sequim. There is no registration fee, but club membership is required. Membership is $30 and is good until the end of the calendar year.
“We are excited about the $2,500 grant awarded to the clubs to deliver this program,” said Boys & Girls Clubs Resource Development Director Janet Gray. “We can increase and improve athletic equipment, allowing us more tools for delivery of a variety of sports and fitness activities.”
