After a few hundred hours of hard work, Kali Bradford discovered her sand castle "Violet Picking Lavender" near the Adagio Bean & Leaf at 981 E. Washington St., was vandalized sometime between July 14-15.
She has an idea who may have done it, but with no cameras or lights on the castle for safety she doesn’t plan to repair it. Bradford has worked with her grandchildren and two sand art apprentices on the project, which serves as an homage to the lavender events this weekend. This was fifth project in the spot.
She may carve a dragon there for her grandson’s birthday but that’s yet to be determined. Her non-sand artwork will hang in Adagio this weekend along with a display of her sand art portfolio.
She is open to hosting workshops there but she’s not sure about doing another lavender project next year.
"It’s pretty discouraging if we put something up and it can’t be left up," she said.
