The Olympic Peninsula Chapter 74 of the International Footprint Association recently announced $1,500 in scholarship awards for 2018 to two recent high school graduates who look to pursue an education in public safety.

Association president George Eims, left, and Scholarship Chair Maura Mattson present the scholarships to homeschool/Peninsula College student Colton McGuffey, second from left, and Sequim High School graduate Adam DiFilippo.

Both are pursuing their education to be firefighters. They and their families were dinner guests at the June dinner meeting held at the Sequim Elks Lodge.

DiFilippo, son of Joe and Mary DiFilippo, will be attending Peninsula College to earn his EMT certification and further his education to fulfill his dream of being a paramedic.

McGuffey, son of Wicus and Michelle McGuffey, will continue to attend Peninsula College in the Bachelor of Applied Management Program after earning his associate’s degree — along with his high school diploma — and taking the EMT Certification Course. His goal is to be a paramedic.

The Chapter 74 Footprint Scholarship Program was initiated in the spring of 2005 and was awarded more than $27,000 in scholarships.

Chapter 74 Footprinters are an organization of retired law enforcement, firefighters and public safety personnel and citizens that support public safety agencies.
