Lily Arrington considers the next skills challenge at the first Bike Rodeo in Sequim on May 5, with help from volunteer Bob Anundson.

The first Sequim Bike Rodeo, hosted by the Olympic Peninsula Bicycle Alliance, enjoys a busy day under sunny skies on May 5.

Volunteers helped youths learn more about bike safety, skills and rules of the road.

“One of our goals is to get them off their training wheels,” sais Brian Watson, a bicycle instructor from Bremerton who designed the course. “(This is) designed to sequentially build their bicycle skills,” he said — likening riding a bicycle to driving a vehicle.

“We want them to see themselves as equal road users with the same rights and same responsibilities as motor vehicle users …. (so) they will be much safer,” he said.
