Celtic band highlights sermon series

Watch the Sky!, a Seattle-area Celtic band, performs in the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Sept. 9, and a 3 p.m. concert at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

The group will appear as part of Trinity Pastor Bill Green’s sermon series on Celtic worship. Celtic Christians, the pastor says, perceive God’s creation as a holy gift and acknowledge God’s presence in every aspect of living, from waking to sleeping, everyday chores to momentous occasions.

The band, part of the folk-music scene since 1991, features Jan Elliott-Glanister on the bodhran (Irish drum) and the dumbec (Middle Eastern drum), Chris Glanister on penny whistles, cittern and mandolin, and Joe Wagner on guitar. Its music is described as rich vocal harmonies backed by driving rhythms.

The afternoon concert is free, though a $10 donation is suggested.

Friends church to serve free supper, show

The Peninsula Evangelical Friends Church congregation will serve food for body and soul at a free “Supper and a Show” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 1291 N. Barr Road, Port Angeles, on the southwest corner of Old Olympic Highway.

The show will be “Genesis, Part I – Paradise Lost,” a movie that was in theaters elsewhere last year but did not make it to the peninsula.

Supper will be homemade soup with bread or rolls, and home-baked cookies. The movie will start as soon as people are served. This is a family-friendly event for all ages.

“There have been no free community meals in the greater Agnew area between Port Angeles and Sequim, so we are reaching out to meet the need for food for body and soul,” Vicki Carlisle, clerk of the Social Committee, said.
