OPAA hosts Zien

The public is invited to attend the Olympic Peninsula Art Association meeting set for 9:30 a.m.-noon Thursday, Sept. 27, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

George Zien is the group’s demo artist for September, with a presentation titled, “Framing Tips & Tricks.” A member of the Olympic Peninsula Art Association and Northwest Watercolor Society, Zien facilitates a life drawing group every Tuesday in his studio.

African children’s choir to sing in Sequim

The African Children’s Choir, who bring African songs, dances and hymns with an African twist, perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the Sequim High School auditorium, 533 N. Sequim Ave.

Sponsored by Eastern Hills Community Church, the concert raises funds for Music for Life, an organization working in seven African countries—Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa.

A free-will offering is taken at the performance to support African Children’s Choir programs, such as education, care and relief and development programs; no tickets are sold.

Hall featured at Harbor Art Gallery

Tammy Hall is the featured artist at the Harbor Art Gallery during the month of October and will be at the gallery, 114 N. Laurel St. in downtown Port Angeles, during the Second Saturday Weekend Art Walk, set for 5-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 13.0

The gallery is a collective of 22 local artists and is open Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Hall, an Olympic Peninsula resident, said she has always been driven to do art, taught herself to use other media; pen and ink, scratchboard, acrylics, oils, collage and found object assemblages, including driftwood animal sculptures. While she is most known for intricate driftwood sculptures, Hall creates art using a variety of media.

Book discussion course begins in early October

A book read and discussion course based on “The Wisdom Way of Knowing,” Cynthia Bourgeault’s 2003 book, begins Tuesday, Oct. 2, and consists of five weekly sessions ending on Nov. 6.

Classes meet Tuesdays from 2-4 p.m. at the Unity in the Olympics church, 2917 E Myrtle St., Port Angeles. (There will be no class on Oct. 16 to allow readers to reflect upon and integrate the material from weeks one and two).

Course leaders are Annette and George Lindamood.

There is no fee for the course, but a love offering is requested.

Bourgeault is a modern day mystic, Episcopal priest, teacher of prayer, writer on the spiritual life and internationally-known retreat leader.
