Sequim’s boys tennis squad won a nail-biter last time against their rivals. This time around, there was a little more margin for error.

The Wolves took two of three singles matches and three of four doubles contests for a 5-2 win at Port Angeles on Sept. 26, giving SHS a season-sweep of the Roughriders.

Sequim’s Liam Payne and Damon Little dominated in No. 1 doubles play, defeating Bo Bradow and Milo Whitman 6-1, 6-0, while Nate Despain and Ryan Tolberd earned a win in their first match as SHS’s No. 2 doubles team, topping Brady Nickerson and Kyler Tourbin 6-1, 6-1.

Thomas Hughes earned a three-set win over Port Angeles’ Jadon Seibel (6-4, 3-6, 7-6) in No. 2 singles while Raymond Lam won in straight sets at No. 3 singles over Wyatt Hall (6-4, 6-0).

Port Angeles’ top singles player knocked off Sequim ace Blake Wiker 7-6 and 6-0, but it wasn’t enough to further the Roughriders’ five-match winning streak.

Sequim saw its own two-game win streak end the following day, dropping a 5-2 decision to 1A powerhouse Klahowya on Sept. 26 in Silverdale.

Wiker and Thomas Hughes picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eagles Joe Bauman and Nick Hytinen in No. 1 doubles play, improving to 3-0 as a duo this fall.

Henry Hughes and Dustin Koch picked up the other Sequim win, edging Dylan Jackson and Jackson Palmer 2-6, 6-4 (10-8) in a tiebreaker.

The Wolves were slated to take on Chimacum on Oct. 1.

Looking ahead

Sequim is at Kingston on Oct. 3 and hosts Bremerton on Oct. 4. The Wolves are at North Mason on Oct. 8 before finishing the regular season with two home matches: Oct. 9 against league-leading North Kitsap and Oct. 11 against Olympic’s Trojans.

The Olympic League tourney is set for Oct. 18 in Poulsbo.
