Sequim’s volleyball squad split a pair of matches at the Olympic League 2A Division Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 27 in Poulsbo, and will go to the West Central District III 2A Tournament as a No. 3 seed out of the league.

Sequim lost to Kingston 3-1 (25-12, 16-25, 25-18, 25-21) in the league opener before coming back to beat North Mason 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-11) to get the third seed.

League champion North Kitsap won the league tournament by beating North Mason and Kingston.

“It would have been nice to beat (Kingston) because we beat them earlier in the year,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. “We came out kind of flat.”

Against Kingston, Isabelle Dennis served 21 for 22 with 27 digs, while Brittney Gale had 11 assists and Kalli Wiker served 12-for-12 with 10 digs. Bobbi Sparks had 15 digs, while Tayler Breckenridge had 12 kills and 19 digs.

Against North Mason, Dennis was again the serving star, going 28-for-29 — including nine straight points in game three to help close out the Bulldogs. She also had 17 digs.

Sparks had 14 digs, while Breckenridge served 12-for-12 with 24 digs and 17 kills, including nine kills in the third game.

Gale had 13 assists and 10 digs, while Wiker served 11-for-11 with nine assists and 10 digs.

Looking ahead

Sequim (12-4) takes on River Ridge at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the opening round of the West Central District tournament at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma.

With a win, Sequim would take on the top-seeded Washington Patriots at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 2. A win against Washington clinches a state berth.

If they lose either game, the Wolves look to play their way through the consolation bracket.

The top six teams from the 16-team district field advance to the state 2 A tournament, held Nov. 9-10 at St. Martin’s University in Lacey.

Last year, Sequim went 1-2 at districts and fell two wins short of a state berth.
