Guest and volunteer registration is open for the third-annual Clallam Night to Shine prom.
Serving individuals with special needs age 14 and older on the North Olympic Peninsula, the free prom will be held Friday, Feb. 8, at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Hosts of Night to Shine include Hillcrest Baptist Church and The Crossing Church, with community partners Clallam Mosaic, Camp Beausite and Wilderness Escapes, and is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Clallam County is one of more than 530 locations around the world simultaneously offering this experience.
Once registered, and partnered with a buddy, each guest will receive the royal treatment. Guests are welcome to hair and makeup services, and/or shoe shining service.
In addition, each guest receives a corsage or boutonniere, a crown or tiara and a personal photo commemorating the evening
Each guest is announced as they enter the prom, walking down a red carpet complete with a welcome from a friendly crowd and “paparazzi” leading up to the moment when they are crowned king or queen of the prom. No flash and no loud noise moments will be observed for guests with sensitivities to lights and sounds.
Once crowned, guests enjoy an abundant buffet, dancing, formal and informal photo portraits, karaoke, games and prom favors.
A Respite Room will be provided for parents and caretakers who wish to stay instead of just dropping off their guest. The Respite Room will provide dinner and massages, and a live stream of the prom.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate our friends, neighbors and family members with special needs, a chance for them to dress up, have a night on the town and make friends and memories in a safe and fun setting,” William Gullick, pastor at Hillcrest and chairman of the event, said.
Guests must preregister, and space is limited to 125.
Volunteers of ages 16 and over also must pre-register. There are many opportunities before, during and after the prom for individuals to be involved. For a list of volunteer activities and responsibilities, visit www.clallamnighttoshine.org/volunteers.
