With both teams looking sharp early, Sequim and North Kitsap look to vie for the Olympic League’s top spot this week.

Sequim’s Wolves (5-0 heading into a March 25 match vs. North Mason) picked up a trio of league victories last week to set up an early season showdown with defending state 2A champ North Kitsap in Poulsbo on March 27.

After dispatching Chimacum 6-1 on March 18, Sequim dominated Kingston 6-1 at home on March 20. Sequim managed four doubles wins and two singles match victories against the visiting Buccaneers.

Olivia Preston topped Brianna Jorgensen without losing a game, while Eden Johnson added a win in No. 3 singles play (6-1, 6-1).

Jessica Dietzman and Kalli Wiker continue to dominate doubles play, topping Kingston’s Gibby Johnson and Sam Young 6-1, 6-0.

McKenna Hastings and Ashley Rosales needed a tiebreaker win in their first set before routing Ana Horne and Taylor Sanville for a two-set victory.

Amanda He and Arlene Law won in No. 3 doubles play, and Emily Bundy and Chloe Goldate needed three sets before edging Sierra Denning and Emily Ramirez (3-6, 7-5, 7-5).

Sequim mixed it up a bit in a visit to Bremerton on March 21, coming away with a 7-0 sweep of the Knights.

Wiker topped Simone Chantal 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles play, while Preston and Bundy added singles wins.

Dietzman and Isabelle Hugoniot teamed up for the first time this season and came away with a straight set, 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Bremerton’s Chantalle Matro and Wendi Pablo.

Hastings and Rosales won again in No. 2 doubles play over Phyllicity Zinter (6-1, 6-0). Sequim’s He and Law won in No. 3 doubles action, as did Goldate and Johnson at No. 4 doubles — both by 6-0, 6-0 counts.

Looking ahead

Sequim was slated to take on North Mason on March 25.

After the Wolves face North Kitsap on March 27, they play at Olympic on March 28, then get a week-long respite during SHS’s spring break.

Sequim is at Port Angeles on April 10 and Klahowya on April 11 before the Wolves host Chimacum on April 15.
