The public is invited to enjoy a playful night of stories through speeches at a free open house from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the KSQM Radio Station studio at 609 W. Washington, Suite 17.

Presented by the Skwim Toastmasters club, the event theme is “Wake Up Your Playful Self.”

Light refreshments will be served.

Terralene Burnham, one of the club’s newer members, will deliver a speech titled, “Upside-down and Backwards.” New to Sequim, Distinguished Toastmaster Sheryl Lamb will speak on her experience titled, “The Dash — Don’t leave your child behind.”

Distinguished Toastmaster Kyle Hall will address his playful side with his speech titled, “Doe-Bay.”

Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive environment where members have a great opportunity to develop their communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.

Teresa M. Barrett will serve as Table Topics master.

“Table Topics is a fun part of the meeting,” vice president of education Linda Christensen said. “It’s a playful one- to two-minute impromptu speaking opportunity which helps develop the ability to quickly organize one’s thoughts and speak clearly on one’s feet.”

General Evaluator Lindy MacLaine will lead evaluators Sharon Labrecque, Jean R. McDonald and Don Woelfle in the evaluation portion of the meeting, giving the speakers reinforcing encouragement and constructive suggestions for growth.

“I expect this meeting to be loads of fun,” Christensen said, “There’ll be a lot of laughter and festivity — my favorite things. All you have to do is show up and have a good time.”

Skwim Toastmasters is a part of Toastmasters International, a worldwide nonprofit educational organization that “empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.” The Sequim club normally meets from 7-8:30 p.m. each Tuesday at The Gathering Place in Sunland, 135 Fairway Drive.
