Morgan sinks an ace

Chad Morgan of Sequim scored his second lifetime hole-in-one at The Cedars at Dungeness on Aug. 24.

Morgan used a 7-iron to drive the 143-yard hole No. 4 at The Cedars.

Coed soccer league starts in early September

Registration is now open for the Port Angeles Parks & Recreation/Peninsula College coed soccer league.

The league is open to men ages 16 and older and women 18 and older (who are not playing on a high school soccer team).

Cost is $55 per player. Individual players will be placed on teams on an “as-needed basis. The season starts Sunday, Sept. 8.

Register at the Port Angeles Parks & Recreation office at 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Mullikin, Carpine take Sunland club titles

Mike Mullikin wins his third consecutive overall club championship at Sunland Golf & Country Club last week, shooting rounds of 80, 79 and 75 for a total of 234. Gene Collet took top honors in the net division with a 10-under score of 206.

On the women’s side, Cyndi Carpine shot a three-day total of 280 (98-93-89) for the club title, her first, while Kathleen Dejong won the net title with a three-day score of 209.

Golfers completed the three-day tourney on Aug. 16.

Trey Green golf tourney set

The 10th-annual Trey Green Guild Golf Tournament & Golf Ball Drop is set for Friday, Sept. 13, at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course, 1965 Woodcock Road.

The four-person scramble raises funds for uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Cost is $100 per person. Fee includes green fees, cart, range balls, tee prizes and food stations (on course). Team mulligans are $40.

Golf balls will be dropped by fire department staff the after the tournament. Golf balls are $10 each and the three closest to the pin will win cash prizes.

Gymnastics registration opens

Fall registration is now open for gymnastics and ninja classes.

Classes start Sept. 16. Gymnastics classes are available for youths of ages 2-eighth grade. Ninja classes accept boys and girls of ages 4-10.

Information, class schedules and pricing for all programs is available at klahhanegymnastics.org.

August registration times are 4-6 p.m., Aug. 28-29, and 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at the gym, 3318 E. Acorn Lane, Port Angeles. In-person registration is required; no online or phone registration is available. Payment by cash/check is required to reserve space.

Golf tourney to benefit YMCA youths, families

The second-annual 2019 Fore the Kids Golf Tournament is set for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at The Cedar at Dungeness golf course, 1965 Woodcock Road.

Cost is $100 per player. Fee includes lunch, 18 holes of golf with a cart, course contests, hole-in-one prize, tournament shirt, swag bag, drawings for items such as a one-year YMCA membership or tickets to a Seahawks Game and more.

Registration for players is open through Sept. 16, at the Cedars at Dungeness Pro Shop. Call 360-582-4900 or visit the shop to register.

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Olympic Peninsula YMCA’s Member Support Fund to provide financial assistance to individuals, families and children in need.

Drive for the Cure set

The Sunland Golf & Country Club hosts its 2019 Drive for the Cure golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The tourney benefits the Olympic Medical Center Foundation’s effort to provide breast screening and diagnostic services or men and women on the Olympic Peninsula.

For non-Sunland members tourney nine-hole cost is $50, or $65 for 18 holes. Fee pays for green fees, luncheon, on-course prizes, a raffle and more. Carts are $10 per set for nine holes, $16 per seat for 18 holes. Luncheon tickets for those not golfing are $20.

GOAT races set

The Great Olympic Adventure Trail (GOAT) Run is set for Saturday, Sept. 7, with three course options for runners: a half-marathon, full marathon and 50-kilometer race.

Races start and end at the Crescent Grange. The 50k starts at 7:30 a.m., the full marathon at 8:30 a.m. and two waves of the half-marathon start at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Cost is $85 for the 50k, $75 for the full marathon and $55 for the half-marathon; youths are $35 for all distances.

Registration closes Sept. 6.

There are no T-shirts or medals for the event; runners get a GOAT Run pint glass and contents. T-shirts are available for an extra fee.

GOAT Run donates funds to the Peninsula Trails Coalition for the construction and maintenance of the Olympic Discovery Trail and the Olympic Adventure Trail.

Oyster races on tap

The Quilcene Oyster Races are scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 15, with half-marathon, 10k and 5k run/walk options.

Cost is $60 for the half-marathon, $40 for the 10k and $30 for the 5k. Fees include a race finisher medal, one serving of local oysters after the race, one local craft beer (21 and older), a free open house event at Worthington Mansion.

The seventh-annual Go Big Golf Tournament is set for a 10 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday, Oct. 5, at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course, 1965 Woodcock Road.

Cost is $70 per person ($47 for club members, employees) and includes green fees, cart and range balls. Format is a one-person scramble. All holes have 18-inch cups. Divisions include Callaway, gross and net.

Night golf set at The Cedars

Open to all levels of players, the glow-in-the-dark Nightoberfest Golf Tournament is set for a 6:30 p.m. shotgun start on Saturday, Oct. 12, at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course, 1965 Woodcock Road.

The two-person scramble (all holes are par-3s) costs $65 per person and includes green fees, pre- and after-tourney party, awards and equipment (glow golf balls, glow sticks; bring your own clubs, flashlights and lanterns). Earn an award for most outrageous outfit.

A pre-tourney party begins at 5 p.m.
