Hospital guild’s thrift shop is open Saturday

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guilds Thrift Shop at 204 W. Bell St. is open Saturday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Featured will be a flowered eight-piece place setting by Phaltzgraff, two oak bar stools, “Wizard of Oz” music boxes, autumn colored women’s vests and an autumn colored quilt, kitchen appliances and more. All white-tagged items will be half price.

Burn ban lifted

Effective Sept. 26, the Clallam County burn ban has been lifted, Fire Marshal George Bailey said last week.

Recreational fires, residential burns and permitted debris burns are now allowed.

Urban Growth areas, including Sequim, Carlsborg, Port Angeles, Forks, Joyce, Clallam Bay and Sekiu, are restricted from outdoor burning, through Washington state law. Those living outside the UGA should call local fire districts for burning regulations and permit requirements.

Grange putting on fundraising breakfast

The Sequim Prairie Grange hosts a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 290 Macleay Road. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 10. Breakfast includes an egg, ham and all-you-can-eat hotcakes with homemade applesauce, coffee or tea. Proceeds benefit the grange. For more information, call 360-582-0100.

Garden club to host ‘Autumn Colors’

Leilani Woods, horticulturist and greenhouse manager for Sunny Farms Nursery, presents “Autumn Colors” at the Sequim Prairie Garden Club meeting set for 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, in the clubhouse at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St.

A longtime Sequim resident, Woods graduated from Washington State University with a degree in horticultural production. She has a background as a grower, nursery owner and estate gardener.

FFA sets fundraising dinner

Prior to Sequim High School’s Homecoming football game on Friday, Oct. 4, the school’s FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) host a “drive-through” fundraising dinner at the SHS stadium parking lot off of West First St. from 5-6 p.m. Cost is $12. Dinner is tri-tip, roll, corn, salad and water.

Forum on tap for Sunday

The Clallam County League of Women Voters hosts a candidate forum for four local races at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6 in the city council chambers at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

Candidates For Fire District 3, position 3 (James Barnfather and William Miano), Sequim School Board’s District 3 (Jim Stoffer and Beth Smithson) and at-large Position 5 (Eric A. Pickens and Charles W. Smith III), as well as Clallam County Commissioner District 1 (Mark Ozias and Brandon Janisse) have been invited to participate. Smith said he has withdrawn from the school board race, though his name will appear on the Nov. 5. ballot.

O3A sets open house for new office

The Olympic Area Agency on Aging’s Information and Assistance office has moved to a new location. Community members are invited to help staff celebrate during an open house from 1-4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at 609 W. Washington St., Suite. 16.

County plans auction

Clallam County is hosting a public auction sale online at www. clallam.net (under “Online Services”) starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, through 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.

The sale is conducted by Public Surplus and consists of vehicles, road/vegetation maintenance equipment and small equipment.

A public viewing of the items is scheduled for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Clallam County Road Shop, 1033 W. Lauridsen Blvd, Port Angeles.

Potential bidders must pre-register online at www.publicsurplus.com and have an email and credit card.

‘Water, Water Everywhere’

The Sequim Bay Yacht Club presents “Water, Water Everywhere in the Dungeness River Watershed” from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the John Wayne Marina, 2577 W Sequim Bay Road.

This event is free and the community is invited.

After a year of study of water and the Dungeness River watershed, Carrol Hull, chair of the League of Women Voters’ Water Study Group, will present a short video and then speak of “The Story of Water — An Introduction.”

Recent news reports and the governor’s declaration of an emergency this past summer due to drought conditions have made water an increasingly important topic for Washington state, program organizers say.

Birds, beverages on tap

The next Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society “Birds and Beverages” event, an informal gathering of birders of all abilities, is set for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St.

Held the second Wednesday of each month, the “low key” meeting encourages community members to share favorite birding spots and bird photography tips, discuss research and more. Beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks are available for purchase.

Jolene Aitchison presents “Family Search: Ways With the Wikis” at the next Clallam County Genealogical Society meeting, set for 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.
