Libraries may be closed, but readers can still connect with other book aficionados through virtual book chats, held on Tuesdays through the month of May by the North Olympic Library System.

Chats, which began May 5, are held at noon on May 12 and May 26, and at 7:30 p.m. on May 19.

The forums, held via the Zoom application, offer a chance to talk about what you’re reading and get title suggestions from others in the community; library staff moderate the discussions. Unlike traditional book clubs, the chats are not focused on one book and there is no required reading to participate.

Participants can join through the internet or by phone.

This program is intended for adults, and all genres and subject areas welcome.

During the COVID-19 emergency all North Olympic Library System facilities are closed to the public, but NOLS is open online at www.nols.org. The library system offers a number of other online/virtual programming and services.

Storytime fun

Through the month of May, NOLS is offering four weekly virtual storytimes. Follow NOLS on Facebook (www.facebook.com/NorthOlympicLibrarySystem) to get reminders when new storytimes will premiere and to watch previously recorded storytimes.

• Mondays, 3:30 p.m. – Storytime: Songs, stories, rhymes and fun with librarian Jennifer

• Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. – Evening Storytime: Rhymes, songs, stories and preschool/toddler fun with Miss Patti; or, Baby Storytime with Adele and Liz (finger rhymes, bouncy rhymes and lots of smiles)

• Fridays, 10:30 .a.m – Yoga Storytime: An interactive full-body experience that builds early literacy skills and healthy bodies at the same time, this special storytime features stories, songs, yoga poses, and breathing exercises for children and their caregivers

• Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. – Bilingual Storytime: Librarian Mary will share rhymes, songs and stories in English and Spanish. Rimas, Canciones y cuentos en inglés y español.

Lunch with Librarian

Youths in grades 4-6 cancan join NOLS librarians Patti and Jennifer for Lunch with a Librarian, a lunchtime book discussion about books they have enjoyed and a time to hear about new titles, too.

Discussions are set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 7, and Thursday, May 14.
