Milestone: Clallam PUD gets Smart Energy Provider designation

PUD No. 1 of Clallam County recently earned a Smart Energy Provider (SEP) designation from the American Public Power Association for demonstrating commitment to, and proficiency in, energy efficiency, distributed generation and environmental initiatives that support a goal of providing low-cost, quality, safe and reliable electric service.
“We’re honored to be recognized for our efforts to support our community’s responsible energy use,” said Doug Nass, General Manager of Clallam PUD.
“We take a lot of pride in the programs we offer that help our customers save money and reduce our collective footprint on the environment. It’s encouraging to be recognized as a best-of-breed utility when it comes to smart energy.”
Josh Mitchell, residential energy advisor at Chelan County PUD in Wenatchee and chair of the Energy Services Committee, presented the designations during the association’s annual Customer Connections Virtual Conference on Oct. 28.
The SEP designation, which lasts for two years (Dec. 1, 2020-Nov. 30, 2022) recognizes public power utilities for demonstrating leading practices in four areas: smart energy program structure; energy efficiency and distributed energy programs; environmental and sustainability initiatives, and customer experience.
Clallam PUD joins more than 85 public power utilities nationwide that hold the SEP designation.
“This designation highlights utilities that are constantly striving to deliver their customers top-notch programs and energy services,” Mitchell said. “These utilities are going beyond ‘keeping the lights on,’ and their communities should be proud.”
