City closes park bathrooms
The restrooms on the south side of Carrie Blake Community Park near the pickleball courts are closed until further notice because of electrical issues, city officials said Wednesday (Jan. 20).
In addition, there is currently no electrical power at the pickleball courts.
The restrooms on the north side of the park at the Water Reuse Site remain open.

County closes Sequim Bay, Discovery Bay to shellfishing
Recreational shellfish activities have been prohibited in Sequim Bay and Discovery Bay, the Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services’ Environmental Health Division announced in recent days, because of the presence of biotoxins.
Also closed to all species are Dungeness Bay, the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Low Point/Lyre River east to Discovery Bay, and ocean beaches (seasonal).
All species means clams (including geoduck), oysters, mussels and other invertebrates such as the moon snail. All areas are closed for the sport harvest of scallops. These closures do not apply to shrimp.

Shipley hosts Zoom classes, café reopens
Shipley Center in Sequim hosts a number of virtual classes for local residents.
Check out a tai chi class each Monday at 10 a.m. led by J. Fields. Tai Chi looks to help people develop a deep inner calm “along with tapping into a wellspring of energy, for an increased vitality, better balance more flexibility and a bolstered immune system,” organizers say. The Cafe at Shipley Center reopened on Jan. 4. Service is take-out only. Call ahead between 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. and pick up food between 11 a.m.-2 p.m. View the menu online at www.shipleycenter.org. PC speaker to focus on relationships between humans, nature
The STEM Club at Peninsula College, and ʔaʔk̓ʷustəƞáwt̓xʷ House of Learning, PC Longhouse are partnering with Studium Generale to bring Dr. Elin Kelsey, to a special Zoom presentation from 12:30-2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21.
Kelsey, professor and author of “Hope Matters: Why Changing the Way We Think Is Critical for Solving the Environmental Crisis,” will present a brief lecture about the reciprocal relationship between humans and the rest of nature, then engage in conversation with students and audience members.

Schools accepting Hi-Cap referrals
The Sequim School District is accepting referrals for students in grades kindergarten-12th who may qualify for Highly Capable (Hi-Cap) Program services.
All referrals must be returned to the Highly Capable Program Coordinator Jodi Olson at Sequim Middle School (301 W. Hendrickson Road), to school building secretaries or the district office by close of business on Jan. 31.
Paper referral forms are available at each school, the Sequim School District Office (503 N. Sequim Ave.), Sequim Boys & Girls Club (400 W. Fir St.), and the Sequim Library (630 N. Sequim Ave.).
