Come rain or shine, the City of Sequim’s second Sequim Sunshine Festival is back, highlighted by a couple of events to keep locals moving.
The Sun Fun Color Run, the cornerstone of this year’s festival is on track with 5k and 1k options on tap on Saturday, March 6, at Carrie Blake Community Park, along with virtual “races” set for March 6-31.
The 5k run/walk is set for 9 a.m. and the 1k is at 1 p.m.; virtual runners/walker can participate on their own time. Courses are an out-and-back on the Olympic Discovery Trail for the 5k, and around Carrie Blake Community Park for the 1k.
The 5k is timed and includes five colors and eight color blast stations; the 1k is not timed, and includes three colors and three blast stations.
Cost is $35 for the 5k, $15 for the 1k and $30 for the virtual run. The fee includes a Sun Fun Color Run T-shirt and run buff, finisher medal, race bib, sunglasses from Rudd Orthodontics, and starting line color blast bag with various colors.

Scavenger hunt
The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce has created the Sunny Sequim Scavenger Hunt for the festival. Participants can download the free GooseChase app on their smartphones to play the game, or stop by the Sequim Visitor Information Center, 1192 E. Washington St., to pick up a paper version of the game.
The scavenger hunt begins Friday, March 5, and encourages family and friends to get out and explore the Sequim-Dungeness Valley, have fun and learn something new about the area.

In addition, the Sequim Sunshine Festival will bring back some of the lights on display during the holidays with an enhanced exhibit at the Water Reuse Site at Carrie Blake Community Park.
The festival will incorporate the city’s 2021 theme — the “Year of Kindness” — with the “Be the I in Kind” billboard, to be on display at the fun run and at Centennial Place (Washington Street/Sequim Avenue intersection). Festival goers are encouraged to take their picture with the sign, to look for other signs of kindness in town, and post to social media using the hashtag #BeKindSequim.
