Youths can learn how software and hardware work together with BBC micro:bit kits, available for youngsters of ages 10-14 through a North Olympic Library System program.
NOLS offers these pocket-sized computers that have an LED light display, buttons, sensors and many input/output features that, when programmed, let it interact with users and their world.
Register at nols.org to pick up a free BBC micro:bit kit at a local NOLS branch. Look for the tutorial video on NOLS’ website or social media to see ways to use these one-program microprocessors to create projects using the kit provided and simple household items.
Access to a computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone is needed for this program. Laptops are available to checkout for 2-hour use on library property at all NOLS branches.
BBC micro:bit Kits are provided by Microsoft and the Washington State Library in partnership with local Friends of the Library groups.
