Pyeatt blisters track for Fliers

Riley Pyeatt isn’t waiting until next spring to start setting school records. The Sequim High junior, who runs for the Kitsap Fliers Track Club, placed third in the 800-meter race at the Tacoma High Performance meet at Bellarmine Prep in mid-May with a finish of 2:15.49 — nearly two seconds faster than the mark SHS record-holder Allison Cutting set in 2008.

Pyeatt bettered that time with a first place finish in the 800 meters of 2:15.46 at the Nino Cantu Twilight Invitational in Seattle on May 22.

Wilder returns with doubleheader wins

The Wilder Senior Baseball Club began its 2021 season after a one-year hiatus with a pair of big wins over South Kitsap on May 23. Wilder beat the Lobos 13-2 and 8-0, with a quintet of pitchers throwing a two-hitter.

Wilder this year features a mix of Sequim, Port Angeles and Forks players.

Sequim’s Michael Grubb went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run in the opener. In the nightcap, Grubb had a hit, ra un and an RBI, while Sequim high teammate Conner Bear had a hit, a run and an RBI.

Wilder (5-2) won two of three games this past weekend at a tourney in Ephrata. Grubb had a hit and an RBI and tossed a scoreless inning for a save in a 10-6 win over the River Dogs.

NPFC earns draw, stays unbeaten

The Northern Peninsula Football Club, an adult elite soccer league featuring former high school and college players, stayed unbeaten on the young season with a 1-1 tie with the ISC Gunners on May 29.

THE NPFC is made up of players from Sequim, Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Forks, and plays in the Western Washington Premier League 2.

On May 23, NPFC beat Gala FC of Mill Creek 4-1 at Memorial Stadium in Port Townsend.

The club returns home to play Harbor Force 2, a Gig Harbor team, at 4 p.m. June 5. Adult tickets are $8 and youth tickets (ages 3 to 12) are $5 and can be purchased online at northernpeninsulafc.com.
