Peonies are blooming in the Sequim Botanical Garden Society’s Terrace Garden in Carrie Blake Community Park near the East Fir Street and South Blake Avenue entrance. More than 40 varieties are blooming this month. Society members note that the peony is an ancient plant from China and southern Europe originally cultivated for medicine, and that they are hardy and easy to grow in the Pacific Northwest. The nonprofit Sequim Botanical Garden Society (SBGS) is a volunteer partner with the City of Sequim that provides education and a visual demonstration of what can be done in home gardening with research-based horticultural practices at the garden. For more about the group, contact SBGS president Dona Brock at BROCKDL88@gmail.com or 360-460-8865, or visit fb.me/SequimBotanicalGarden or SequimBotanicalGarden.org.
