Milestone: Elsey receives DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Registered nurse Adrianne Elsey was recently presented with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
The award, created by the DAISY Foundation, recognizes the “extraordinary, compassionate nursing care provided to patients and families every day.”
Elsey was recognized for her work as an obstetrics nurse at OMC, where she cares for and supports laboring mothers in some of their most vulnerable and joyful moments.
“Adrianne is a compassionate nurse that provides excellent care to our mothers and newborns,” Elsey’s supervisor Christina Johnson said. “She is very nurturing to her patients and takes pride in being a part of a mother’s birth story.”
A patient nominated Elsey for the DAISY award, writing: “Nurturing, respectful, understanding, professional, skilled. Adrianne exceeded in all these areas. I have never met a more qualified nurse than her.
“I once read that a nurse is to a patient like a mother is to a child. I can’t agree more. My mom was unable to be with me and was so thankful that Adrianne was my nurse.
“Adrianne was by my side during my labor which eventually led to a C-section. Adrianne protected, respected and maintained my modesty during labor and delivery, which provided a comfortable environment. Adrianne held my hand while I cried and reassured me she would be with me during my surgery. The most important quality Adrianne possesses is the ability to listen and educate. I felt prepared for anything.
“My recovery was incredibly fast because of her and everyone on that floor and I now have a healthy baby girl. Thank you so much!”
Olympic Medical nurses may be nominated by patients, families and colleagues. Each honoree receives a certificate commending her or him as an “Extraordinary Nurse.” The certificate reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.”
Honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin and a meaningful, hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. A cross-functional committee of healthcare workers review the nominations and select the final nominee.

About the DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of an auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.)
The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
