Sequim City Band to resume rehearsals in April

Published 1:30 am Wednesday, March 16, 2022

The band is back.

Sequim City Band members announced recently the resumption of rehearsals in preparation for the 2022 summer concert series.

Weekly Wednesday rehearsals kick off from 7- 9 p.m., April 20, at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave.

This larger venue will allow an increased distance between musicians, band representatives said.

The band requests all participants be fully vaccinated, meaning at least two weeks post their final vaccination. This requirement will be re-evaluated for rehearsals after mid-May.

Respirators (such as N95 and KN95 masks) will not be required, but to further protect themselves and others musicians are encouraged to wear a mask when not playing.

The band is also looking to add more members, including those who played during high school and beyond, even if it has been a few years (or decades) since they’ve played.

For percussionists or wind musicians who are interested in playing with a well-established and rehearsed wind ensemble, now is a great time to join, they said.

Music director Tyler Benedict has scheduled an easy listening concert program “so that musicians can successfully be prepared for the first concert,” band representatives noted.

The Sequim City Band’s first 2022 outdoor concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at The James Center for the Performing Arts, 350 N. Blake Ave.

The band continues to raise funds for an expansion of the rehearsal hall adjacent to the James Center. Find more information and/or donate to the effort at sequim cityband.org.
