It’s still early, but Sequim’s boys golf squads looks like they’re in mid-season form.
The Wolves (4-0) in a 147-230 win over North Mason at The Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim on March 24.
“The boys started strong, got stronger as the round went on, and then finished with a flurry,” Sequim coach Sean O’Mera said.
Senior Ben Sweet led the way with a 3-under-par 33, with his round-opening birdie one of four on the day. O’Mera said Sweet putted “brilliantly,” including a 3-foot-breaking putt from off the green on The Cedars’ eighth hole and an 8-foot-birdie putt to cap off his round at the ninth.
SHS teammate Dominic Riccobene was close behind, firing a 2-under 34 round that included fur birdies.
O’mera said he was impressed not just with Riccobene’s four birdies but par-saving play on the fourth hole after a mistake.
“Many players would have wilted under those circumstances; Dom chose to recover and play,” O’Mera said.
Sequim’s Pryce Glasser shot an even-par 36 for his best score of the season. His round included a sand wedge approach from 90 yards out on the ninth hole that landed about four feet from the cup.
“It was an impressive shot in front of quite the gallery of players and coaches already done with their rounds,” O’Mera said.
Zack Thompson, a relative newcomer, shot a 44 — his first in the 40s this season — backed by Cole Smithson (47) and Lars Wiker (48, a personal best).
Conner Frase led North Mason with a 53.
Scores and details for Sequim’s girls against North Mason were not available at press time.
Coming up
Sequim hosts Kingston on March 31 and then is off the links for two weeks during Spring break.
