Sequim Bay Yacht Club members host free rowing equipment tryouts on Sunday, April 24, at John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Road.

Members will introduce those 18 and older to rowing machines, explain the club’s learn-to-row program and then help each prospective rower into a quad boat for a 20- to 30-minute row with experienced rowers.

Registration opens at 7 a.m. in the south parking lot of John Wayne Marina; boat rides are first-come, first-served. Tryouts continue until noon.

Access to the shells is via the Mud Bay beach, so those attending wear water shoes (no flip flops, no slides), shorts and snug shirts. Personal flotation devices will be provided.

For those who have rowed elsewhere, this is an opportunity to try out the yacht club boats, learn more about its programs and meet both the founders of the club’s rowing group and its newest members.

Members will also talk about the club boat named for Joe Rantz, a Clallam County native featured in “The Boys in the Boat” who helped the University of Washington win an Olympic Games gold medal in 1936.
