Some of the top local high school artists saw their work on display in early April, as Sequim’s City Arts Advisory Committee hosted winners of the High Schools of the Olympic Peninsula Creative Crafts and Arts Exhibit at the Sequim Civic Center on April 1.

Kaylie Steed, a Sequim High School freshman, took first place with her drawing titled “One Who Has Loved Truly.” Jakob Miller of Quilcene took second place overall with his welded piece “Metal Rose,” while third place was awarded to Jaxon Taylor, a 10th grader at Quilcene High School for his ceramic “Birdman” vase.

Each student received checks ($200, $150 and $100, respectively) for their awarded pieces, with funds donated by community members.

Honorable Mentions were awarded to Sequim High School senior Madison McKeown for her floral arrangement, “Skull and Antlers,” as well as Faith Coffey, a 10th-grader at Quilcene High School, for her charcoal drawing “Chihuahua Dog,” and Jill Adolphsen, an 11th-grader at Sequim High School, for her watercolor and ink painting “Elephant.”

The arts commission received 65 entries; were selected for the exhibit.

The artwork will be on display at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., through Friday, April 29.
