Girls tennis: Sequim nets win over Kingston

After numerous rain-outs and postponements, Sequim’s girls tennis squad finally got on the court early last week, earning a 6-1 win over Kingston on May 3.

Kendall Hastings, Allie Gale and Aidyn Shingleton each earned straight set wins in singles play.

Sequim’s Jordan Hegtvedt and Malory Morey won their match in No. 1 doubles action, topping Kate McCabe and Kylie Sandstrom, 6-0 and 6-3.

Also earning wins were Sequim’s Ruby Romano and Payton Smithson (No. 3 doubles) and Taylor Heyting and Kiera Morey No. 4 doubles).

Coming up

The Olympic League tourney was scheduled for May 9-10 in Poulsbo — results were not available at press time.

The top five singles and doubles teams advance to districts.

The West Central bi-district tournament is May 19-20 at Bremerton Tennis Club, featuring 16 singles and doubles teams — six from the South Puget Sound League and five each from the Olympic League and KingCo League.
