A Sequim man is scheduled for a four-day trial this October for allegedly molesting and raping a family member.
George Henry Remillard, 65, pleaded not guilty on Sept. 2 via video in Clallam County Superior to two charges of rape of a child in the first degree and child molestation in the first degree.
His trial is set to begin Monday, Oct. 10 with a status hearing at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 23. For the felony charges, he could face up to life in prison.
Judge Lauren Erickson kept Remillard’s bail at $25,000 on Sept. 2 following his first appearance in court on Aug. 24, despite deputy prosecuting attorney Sarah Woolman’s request to increase bail to $100,000.
Defense attorney John Hayden, assigned to Remillard earlier in the week, spoke for Remillard’s release noting his ties to the community, that the alleged victims are out of state, and all in the same family, according to court documents.
Erickson said she had concerns with Remillard’s “pattern of conduct and the nature of the offense,” court documents state.
She also ordered a no contact order for Remillard with the now-10-year-old relative for 10 years.
Remillard was arrested on Aug. 23 by Sequim Police officers at Sequim Police Department, according to court documents.
Initially, officers were referred to Remillard from Port Angeles’ Child Protective Services (CPS) via Idaho’s offices after interviewing the girl who told a therapist he sexually abused her when she was 4 or 5 at his downtown Sequim home.
She and her family moved from Sequim to Idaho in June 2018, Sequim Police report.
On Aug. 3, Nampa Police Department (Idaho) led a forensic interview with the girl.
The most recent incident was July 4, 2019, when she stayed in Sequim for about four weeks, one of those with Remillard, and he also touched or attempted to touch her cousin, too, Sequim Police report.
Her mother considered sending the girl in the summer of 2020 but an immediate family member said, “Don’t let her go,” court documents state.
Sequim Police report the girl’s mother learned other immediate family members expressed that he did similar acts to them, and some of them are considering speaking about the incidents against them, according to court documents.
Det. Sgt. Darrell Nelson requested Nampa Police interview two more family members with a victim witness coordinator.
