Local author releases book
Port Angeles author Bill Maier recently released “A Boy at War,” described as a complete memoir/novel about “the kinds of random, chaotic violence and daily tedium typically experienced by soldiers in the American/Vietnam War.”
The 440-page book, Maier says, invites readers to “question if they might have been able to act more honorably or whether they could have done some of the horrible things he did.”
Maier has a 40-year history as a combat veteran mental health therapist, noting that he has treated more than 1,000 combat veterans on the Olympic Peninsula.
He received an honorable discharge as an enlisted U.S. Marine and his battalion was awarded a Navy Unity Commendation for the battle that is the climax of the book.
The book is available at barnesandnoble.com and amazon.com.
