Milestone: Olympic Nature Experience gets $10K grant to support programs

Olympic Nature Experience (ONE) announced in October that the organization received a $10,000 grant from Benjamin N. Phillips Memorial Fund, through the Seattle Foundation.

The grant, ONE representatives said, will support the organization’s expansion and exploration of new classroom sites in the coming year.

“Outdoor learning opportunities allow children to build skills, knowledge and resilience that only nature

can provide,” said ONE executive director Merissa Koller Williams said. “We heavily consider our impact on the land when we choose a site and schedule programs. Having multiple sites allows us to welcome more students as well as minimize the effect of our use.

“We are grateful to the Benjamin N. Phillips Memorial Fund for this opportunity to continue growing our programs.”

Olympic Nature Experience offers outdoor programs for children age 6 months to 12 years through an outdoor play group, preschool, elementary aged enrichment and seasonal camps.

ONE has availability for students ages 3-5 in two-day programs at the Dungeness Recreation Area, Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday as well as in Nature Skills II, a STEAM-based elementary-aged enrichment course, on Fridays in Agnew.

All programs are held entirely outdoors from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Olympic Nature Experience is a registered nonprofit organization and accepts contributions at any time during the year.
