The Field Arts & Events Hall is back for an encore.
After what staffers call a successful inaugural year, the Port Angeles venue offering international and local artists along with cultural experiences announced the lineup for its second artistic season, set to run September through May 2025.
The new season kicks off with the highly-requested return of rock ‘n’ roll showman Frankie Moreno at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5. Moreno’s tribute performance — presented at the Field Hall with partnership support from Country Aire Natural Market — includes hits from rock icons such as Elvis Presley. His accolades include 17 top-10 albums (including five No. 1’s), 118 top-ten singles (101 No. 1’s) and five Las Vegas “Headliner of the Year” awards.
The opening weekend continues on Friday, Sept. 6, with Stillhouse Junkies, described as a “high-energy” bluegrass and roots trio that was the International Bluegrass Music Association’s 2021 Momentum Band of the Year. Band members Fred Kosak (guitar, mandolin), Matt Thomas (upright bass), and Alissa Wolf (fiddle) use the mythology of the American West to weave stories through song; the performance starts at 7:30 p.m.
Rounding out the weekend, Field Hall hosts a Free Jazz Sunday event on Sunday, Sept. 8, in the Sunset Bar & Lounge. Local jazz ensemble Fat Ferdie & The Stolen Sweets, featuring Jessie Lee (vocals), Ed Donahue (trumpet), Andy Geiger (tenor sax), George Radebaugh (piano), Ted Enderle (bass), and Tom Svornich (drums) will perform a free concert starting at noon.
Local flavors
On Saturday, Sept. 28, Kalan Wolfe and The Shift, an original band from the Olympic Peninsula, brings their blend of rock, reggae, folk and more to the Field Hall stage.
On Saturday, Dec. 21, Amanda Lynn Bacon and the Black Diamond Junction Band return for a special “Downhome Country Christmas” featuring holiday favorites with a country twist.
‘In Harmony’
In partnership with Juan de Fuca Foundation, Field Arts & Events Hall offers the “In Harmony” Concert Series. It kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, with a 2024 Festival Encore featuring singer-songwriter Abby Posner, with special guest Paula Fong.
At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, Chilean multi-instrumentalist Nano Stern will bring his contemporary take on South American folk and rock music to the stage.
Blues/Americana artist Jesse Roper, a JFFA favorite, returns to the Field Arts & Events Hall at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, following a record-breaking performance at Concerts on the Pier.
Family-friendly fun
The Field Arts & Events Hall also sees the return of family-centered showcases in 2024-25, starting with Doktor Kaboom!, who combines science and comedy in a fun, educational show for all ages at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29.
On Friday, Oct. 18, MUMMENSCHANZ, dubbed the Swiss “artists of silence,” will present their anniversary production “50 Years” — described as “a poetic and imaginative performance for all ages” — at 7 p.m.
The Boise-based LED, a dance company, music project and film studio in one, will offer two performances, including a 1 p.m. family matinee designed for young audiences, and a 7:30 p.m. performance.
International artists
On Sunday, Oct. 6, Ko Tonga Cheol, led by Congolese guitarist and singer Niwel Tsumbu, will showcase the contemporary identity of Irish music and the impact of migration on culture at 2 p.m.
Nov. 23: Internationally recognized musician and humanitarian Samite will present “Resilience,” a multi-media one-man play, with post-show talk-backs, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
And more …
Josh Gracin opens the Strait Country Music Series at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct.11. Gracin entered the charts in 2004 with “I Want To Live” and followed with Billboard hits such as “Nothin’ To Lose,” “Stay With Me (Brass Bed),” and “We Weren’t Crazy.” He melds rhythm and blues and soul music with country.
Host Drew Wilson-McGrath returns with two standout stand-ups — Tyler Boeth and Dianna Potter — for Comedy Night in the Sunset Lounge at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. Boeth’s second comedy album “Full Circle” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Comedy Charts while his Dry Bar Comedy special, “Wait for it,” received more than five million views. Potter is a two-time finalist of Portland’s Funniest Person contest at Helium Comedy Club. She took first place in the Western Oregon Comedy Competition 2021.
Nat Geo Live
At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, Field Hall-goers are invited to journey to the Arctic with National Geographic Explorer and photographer Kiliii Yüyan in “Life on Thin Ice,” the first in a series of Nat Geo Live events.
